Consumer Buyer Behaviour

The Caledonian Business School at GCU re-engineered the Consumer Buyer Behaviour class to improve student progression by extending the opportunities for students’ to self-regulate their learning with the introduction of weekly online low stakes testing, staged submission of coursework and electronic submission and feedback of coursework. The online testing has led to staff workload efficiencies and students have informally reported an improved learning experience. The results of the completed redesign can be found by following the links listed below:

At a Glance

Faculty: Caledonian Business School
Class/Course: Consumer Buyer Behaviour
Students: 300
Technology: Weekly online multiple choice question tests, electronic submission and marking of coursework
Assessment Activities: Weekly tests kept students motivated and engaged with module.

Electronic submission (Blackboard) and marking of coursework (word database)
Efficiencies: Re-running automated tests were time saving and technical problems minimal in second iteration

It is likely that in normal circumstances, the online marking approach would have been easier the second year running.
Learning Gains: From informal ongoing discussion with students, it is believed that students had a better learning experience. Students reported learning more with weekly online tests.
