Hi all, I'm also in New Zealand, I'm from Hawke's Bay (wine country) and am an IT lecturer at the Eastern Institute of Technology. I currently teach both online and traditional classes and am looking forward to my first online conference. Unfortunately I'm likely to miss the live discussions, they are all at around 2 to 3 in the morning my time (I only get up at 3am to watch rugby :-)

Hello from autumn in the Garden City, Christchurch New Zealand.
I work at the University of Canterbury in Bridging Programmes . I have just (last week) finished teaching the first semester of the first course that I have been totally responsible for developing, teaching and designing the assessment. It has been hugely chalenging and rewarding. In 3 weeeks I move onto semester 2 of the same course. I am hoping to get lots of inspiration and cutting edge ideas which will enable me to design a course that both inspires and enthuses my students. I will be getting up in the middle of the night for the live sessions......... rugby AND education are absolutely worth the sacrifice.

Hello all, I'm Sue and it's good to see some old Glasgow friends here! I'm now in NZ, nestling in to a new country/role at Auckland. Look forward to meeting some new folk this side of the globe here.

Hi Sue,

It's great to 'see' you again - I didn't know you'd moved over to New Zealand - how is it going? Bet you're really missing the Glasgow weather!

Hope to catch up with you sometime during the conference!

Alison.

Hello, This is my first time experiencing this type of conference and I am finding it very interesting. I am another New Zealander from the Scottish City of Dunedin (although has links to Edinburgh not Glasgow)

HI everyone,
I'm just trying out a few e-things. Sorry about the late hour but that's when I like to work. I'm in Plymouth UK and got fed up with marking

Hello everybody
I am in Jamaica and simply excited to attend a conference at the same level of participation and information but without the expense. I am also glad for the asynchronous activity so that I am able to say hi when I want to. Notwithstanding, I will getting out of my bed to get online for some of those live chat sessions in which I am interested.

I am assessing various assessment strategies with specific view of that for online learning. I will be building a tool that measures how much one has learnt in the online learning environment. My background is with Computer Science and Information Systems.

Hi everyone. I'm Jenny and I'm one of the REAP team, where as a learning technologist I have been involved with various interesting pilots using technology supported assessment. We are really excited that today is the first full day of our online conference and looking forward very much to seeing all the discussion. I've just been reading everyone's posts on the social forum and I feel like there's already a social community around the conference. It's fabulous that the online format lets us have so many interesting people joining us from all over the globe. I hope you all enjoy the next couple of days and find it stimulating, I know we will!

Hi Carl

Where are you based in Jamaica? My mother & father in law live in Kingston. I have been out there a few times. I wish I was there now although it is probably still a bit dark.

Hi

As a late arriva and moderator I am relieved that the chat (and the rest of the conference site) is so easy to use. No problems, unlike the synchronous facilities available in our VLE.

I'm really looking forward to the conference and think the programme looks great - not too much and lots of time for interaction and discussion. My only minor gripe is that I have to get up early on Thursday, but that seems a bit of a lame excuse since some of you are at the opposite end of the clock and will be taking part in the middle of my night!

Hope you all enjoy it.

Hi Sue!

Will you be in NZ this time next year? I'm coming out to work at Otago U for three months April-June 2008, so I'll be in the south for most of it, but we could have a coffee in Auckland, if you're up for it!

Talk to you soon

A

Hi Anne - Sounds exciting! You're more than welcome. Long way to come for a coffee from Otago though, will you have time to travel around?

Hi John

I like your idea about a virtual cocktail party. I will even go so far as to have a real cocktail at about 2000h this evening UK time - you will just have to take a drink early in the morning if you want to join in!

Cheers

I think I'll join you both for that one!

It's been really interesting, but tiring at the same time! It'll take quite some time to catch up on and digest all the discussions that have been going on.

Cheers!

Hope you enjoy the rest of the conference,

Alison.
