Breaking News...

Delegates might like to know of the information I have just received. The average exam mark for my first year psychology students this year is 57%, up from 51% last year when there was no online collaborative learning scheme. Of course, it's much too early to say that the difference is a result of that scheme. We'll be testing that hypothesis over the coming weeks.

Was the percentage of enrolled students taking the exam about the same as last year, Jim?

Derek, it was about the same, maybe 20 fewer. That mark includes all students who took the class as an elective only and who therefore needed only 40% to get the credits they wanted. Our first task will be to compare students wishing to continue with psychology with their counterparts from last year.

I can endorse Jim's view of the success of collaborative learning. The arithmetic mean score of the written part of oue BEd 1 Educational Studies Exam rose from 59% in 2006 to 70% in 2007! In an end of crse questionnaire 72% of students "Agreed" or "Strongly agreed" that collaborative working helped their learning.
