It sounds as though online conferencing is a new experience for some of you, while others are used to chatting and exchanging views in this way.

How are you finding this conference? Enjoying interacting without the need to travel, or missing out on the face to face? Having fun experimenting with the conference tools, or is the technology getting in the way?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Yes, this is the first on-line conference I "attend"- a bit overwhelming - I can't and finally realized I can't read and involve myself in everything. I guess just as in a face2face one, we must choose and thus we always miss out on something- We can't possibly stay up-dated on all the issues- Too little time - so much information -

I hunger for a live page using video and sound. I take part in a lot of synchronous 'virtual conferences' and they work really well! it would be great to have a corner somewhere for video interaction for those who would like it and to be able to see the panels on-screen! Perhaps I'm missing something because of poor virtual navigating skills!

I find myself enjoying reading the conversations and the posts, but by the time I have thought of something, the conversation has moved on. It's been an interesting experience, though, and given me lots to think about. I've just finished an online course, and the tendency there was for people to read a lot and not make many comments, especially as work commitments made time precious. It puts us in the position of students, I guess, which is quite an important lesson.

Hi Rosalind

We will seriously consider this if we do REAP08! So many of our panellists are from far-flung corners of the world that the logistics are potentially complex. We have high hopes that technology is improving so fast with video messaging and things like skype that our next conference will look more human...

Im in the 'so much to read then the discussion has moved on' group - I think its just a skill I need to get better at. 'Next time', it would be great to have places under people's names. It's quite exciting to be chatting with someone on another continent.

I had a really silly online experience with a student a few years ago. I live in Sydney and so does he - well I thought he did, until he wrote in an online chat that he had damaged his back when he slid off the roof while shoveling snow - now I have heard some pretty fantastic excuses for not completing assignments but down under in sunny OZ, snow shovelling, come on! ... OK, it took awhile to figure out that I live in Sydney, Australia, and he in Sydney, Nova Scotia.
