I just thought I would follow-up on what was mentioned during the session - about different uses for clickers in the classroom and best practices

This is a great resource: http://www4.uwm.edu/ltc/srs/faculty/best_practices.cfm

And there is a lot of stuff on www.educause.edu

The way we presented possible uses to instructors is as follows:
1. Formative assessment of teaching (e.g. pacing your lecture according to how well students understand or taking their opinion what to do next)
2. Formative assessment of learning (e.g. Mazur's ConcepTests in each class or before/after modules; pre-tests)
3. Stimulating group discussion/peer instruction (whether by opinion polling that will show difference of opinion, or again via Mazur's method)
4. For competitions or debates (e.g. our case study in this conference)

Other uses less likely to be employed by faculty but faculty:
1. Demographic polling of students
2. Surveying student opinion on how the course is going so far (can be intermingled very successfully with an in-class focus group or discussion coupled with prepared & on-the-fly questions)

Hope you all find this helpful
