Many thanks, Jim, for sharing your experience with us and dealing so patiently and helpfully with all the questions and issues we wanted to raise with you. Thank you also to everyone who helped fuel the discussion both in this topic and in Assessing First Year Learning.

Finally, congratulations to Jim and his students for, as you'll see from Jim's Breaking News message today in the Assessing First Year Learning topic, his students' exam results this year are better than they were last year. We look forward to seeing how good they get next year once he is no longer doing all the teaching by himself! Best wishes, Jim.

Thanks Derek for all your help in mangaging and contributing to this discussion, and my thanks to all who contributed, or just read.

Final news is that the fail rate this year was 5%, down from 13% last year. BUT - we did disqualify quite a few students then allow them back in. SO, I've got some tangles to untangle before I can make any claims.
