The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management at SU redesigned Introduction to Tourism class (200 students annually) to increase student engagment with course material by providing structured oppourtunities for students to take responsibility for their learning. The course redesign involved a 50% reduction in lectures replacing them with podcasts and regular online tests and the enhancement of the remaining lectures with student, peer and tutor interaction via electronic voting systems.
