4. Therefore a new emphasis on assessment designs that promote learning is needed
My starting point is that consideration of assessment design must start with how students are likely to be impacted.
The impact of assessment occurs:
- prior to assessment points in anticipation of what is to take place
- during assessment events allowing students to reveal or disguise their learning
- following assessment in terms of what students choose to engage in or avoid
In short, assessment is the most influential lever to effect types and approaches to study, the extent of engagement and what students take from their courses.
