Poor designs

  • Poor designs are ones that don’t exhibit the qualities discussed above. They typically occur when the motive behind an assessment design is testing without consideration of the consequences. Poor designs do not take account of how students are influenced, what effects they have on study patterns and on what students do afterwards.

  • The default position of students when confronted with poor designs they are not prepared for is to grab what they can and regurgitate what they know. This has negative long term consequences and devalues the act of assessment itself.
